Class Reflection

During the 6 weeks of our technology course, I feel that I am more knowledgeable about technology's uses inside of a classroom. I feel better knowing how to navigate Google Chrome and the tools it has to offer. On the first week, I took a lot from the classroom and one thing that stood out to my the most was how to hyperlink. That is important for me how to use because it makes your work look cleaner. By knowing how to do that, I ended up applying what I learned on how to hyperlink with a coworker of mine needing help on how to create a game using PowerPoint. Now in week 6 I really enjoyed the fact on how much quicker I am with google drive and how to link things into my profile on google. The best things that I enjoyed from this course that I know I will use is the google classroom. I was always interested on how to create one and now that I know, I want to add so much to it. This course has helped me to better understanding the technology world and how it can benefit many stud...

What I know about technology for Education

Image
When I was in school, technology wasn't really there. By this I mean we had a general computer class, but did I personally take anything away from it? No, and I left it to that. Since then I have noticed how much technology has been put into schools. At first, I am not going to lie, I was jealous because I wish I had that. To me, I just saw laptops given to students and thinking "What do they need that for? What is wrong with paper and a pencil?" I was not educated on the real use of technology and for that, I did not understand the true knowledge behind it. Since I was not part of the technology in school generation, I was excited to learn about it during this course. From week one all the way from week five, I can say that I took so much from this class that I want to start using it now. Though I do not have a classroom to actually use it in, I do want to practice more on it. From this class, I have a better understanding of why students need technology in the classro...

What I saw on Social Media

As I was scrolling through my Facebook timeline, I noticed an interesting article from Buzzfeed (anyone like taking Buzzfeed quizzes?) on there they were covering a scam that involved two famous actresses, Falicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin. Both of their names stood out to me because I am a fan of some of their work (Desperate Housewives/Full House).          What I found the most interesting was the scam they are both being charged with. They are both among dozens of others charged in a massive college admission scam. At first, I was confused on what type of scam they could possibly be involved in because to me I see them as wealthy elites who can pay for college for their children like nothing, I thought to myself what kind of scam are they running? To my surprise, the scheme was referred to by the FBI as Operation Varsity Blues. This scam involved facilitating cheating on the SAT and ACT exams for stu...

What sort of a Learner are you?

What sort of a learner am I? That is an answer that I learned once I was an adult in college. In elementary school, I honestly did not know there were types of learning styles because I was never given the choice of how I wanted to learn something. I would remember to draw pictures in my notes and labeling everything just for me to understand my notes or having to see a picture of how to build furniture instead of reading everything on there. It was very noticeable when I would always go on YouTube to see how things are done and doing it hands-on. That is where I saw that I am a visual learner and also a hands-on type learner.  I am a visual learner and hands-on learner and that is these are the type of learning styles I personally like. I can have wording and audio, but there has to be a visual there that I can understand more of what a person is saying or if I am reading some sort of text along with it. In school, it was hard when visuals were not...

Parent/Teacher Conference (Free Choice)

Yesterday (Tuesday) we had parent/ teacher conferences in our district. After speaking with many of the program assistants I decided to go ahead and volunteer to be a translator for the day. This would be my first time translating for the parents because usually I would take this day off and use it for personal appointments. I did not have any so I decided to use this day and also get extra pay (because we all know how much a program assistant makes). I thought why not just do it and so I did.      It was very interesting how their system works when it comes to translators. Our conferences were from 11:30 am-3 pm and 5-7pm. Each program assistant working translation had walkie talkies and we were called at any time to go into certain classrooms. We were just running around going up and down left and right. Believe me when I say this, there were no breaks at all. I never knew how much a translator was needed because of how many parents not having Engl...
Technology is always around us no matter what and it is becoming super popular especially in the education world. I like the idea of finally incorporating technology in the classroom because growing up it was not there for me. I mean it was, but I could clearly remember when they started giving teachers their very own desk top computers in their classrooms, I was in the second grade. For us all we did on the computers was how to open up Word Documents and mess around with it and how to save it to our floppy disks or print out one of those cool word art. That was my technology education back then. However, it has completely changed. Now in classrooms there are smart boards, each student has a chrome book, students know how to use social media and making a power point is not cool anymore like it was with us. There are good things that come with technology and I do like it and enjoy it because for me it gives learning a whole new outlook. There is no need to buy books you can rent them...
